Couples Retreat Review

Many movies have come out in the past week, one in particular seems to have captivated audiences young and old. Couples Retreat is a movie about four couples that take a trip to an island paradise, where the couples go to patch up their relationships.
One couple in particular Jason (Jason Bateman) and Cynthia (Kirsten Bell) are having marital issues and are thinking about getting a divorce. They persuade the other three couple to take the trip so they get the group discount and hopefully revive their marriage. The other couples —Dave (Vince Vaughn) and Ronnie (Malin Ackerman), Shane (Faizon Love) and Trudy (Kali Hawk), Joey (John Favreau) and Lucy (Kristen Davis)— persuaded by the couple’s distress decide to go, thinking that it would be a fun and relaxing vacation. But the trip is far from fun, instead of jet-skiing, fishing, and relaxing on the beach. The couples have to do relationship building exercises and couples therapy sessions. This leads to fighting between all the couples that eventually gets patched up at the end of the movie.
There was too much arguing in the movie; couples argue way too much in real-life to spend ten dollars watching people argue on the big-screen. There is a lot of crude humor in this movie, that I found it to be semi-funny. When the movie trailers first came out it was rated R, but soon after was pushed down to PG-13. I think if it stayed with an R-rating it would’ve been much funnier. I recommend you wait until it comes out on Redbox and only waste a dollar to see it.

  1. I just found out that this movie is directed by Peter Billingsly--Ralphie from A Christmas Story. Not that it makes this any better of a movie, but it's kinda interesting.
